View of the ebook meeting
Opening the meeting, Dr. Le Thi Kim Thoa, HCMUNRE presented an overview of the ebook outline and assignment of tasks of each member in the previous meetings.
Dr. Le Thi Kim Thoa presented the outline of the ebook compilation
Next, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Anh Tuan from Can Tho University reported on the results of final draft of chapter 1- Geographical characteristics of coastal resources in Vietnam. In this content, He highlighted the inconsistency of coastline and area data in the South China Sea or so call the East Sea between domestic and foreign data sources. There is a need to agree on which data source to use to avoid data overlapping between chapters.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Anh Tuan presented the content of chapter 1
Dr. Thoa, HCMUNRE suggested using documents issued by the state, and if the data used in chapter 1 is mentioned in the other chapters, attention must be paid to using the same source.
Then, MSc. Tran Thi Kim-HCMUNRE presented the results of chapter 2. Issues on natural resources and marine environment in Vietnam. This chapter consists of 2 sections: Changes in typical ecosystems and changes in coastal resources, in which, typical ecosystems include mangroves, seagrass beds and coral reefs. Contents of marine resources include living and non-living resources.
MSc. Tran Thi Kim reported the content of chapter 2
Dr Thoa suggested that chapters 7 be presented on day 1. Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6 will be presented the next day because the contents of these three chapters are similar. Members can easily follow and comment.
Following the presentation of Ms Kim, Dr. Phu- VMU, Dr. Thu-VNIO, Dr. Thinh – CTU and Ms. Thu- HCMUNRE presented the chapter 7- Policies for coastal management issues. All members have the same opinion that the content of international conventions, laws, and state policies… is very long. We need to write the core issues to ensure the number of pages is assigned in a book chapter. Therefore, we should agree on what to include so that the content written between the partners is identical.
Ms.Thu-HCMUNRE, Mr.Thanh-CTU, Dr.Phu-VMU; MSc.Thu-VNIO presented the chapter 7
Date 2: 11 June 2023
The second day of the meeting started with the presentation of the MCD team. Mr Hoang Nguyen Giap from MCD presented the content of chapter 3- Coastal region of the Red River Delta. The content of the chapter consists of 4 parts: part 1 provides an overview of the coastal area of the Red River Delta; part 2 talks about the coastal resources of the Red River Delta; part 3 presents coastal issues; and finally the potential and advantages for marine economic development.
Mr. Hoang Nguyen Giap reported the content of chapter 3
Next, MSc. Phan Minh Thu, representative of VNIO reported the results of chapter 4- Coastal Area in the central region of Vietnam. Mr. Thu shared about the layout of chapter 4. VNIO’s team tried to present the content that was agreed in the last meeting. However, each region has its own characteristics, so there will be slight variations. Currently, the team only presented the main content, details and sources will be added as soon as possible.
MSc. Phan Minh Thu presents the compiled content of chapter 4
Following the presentation of VNIO group, Dr. Huynh Vuong Thu Minh- CTU presented the content of chapter 5 -Coastal region of the Mekong Delta. The content consists of 3 parts: overview of the Mekong Delta; Resources in the coastal area of the Mekong Delta and finally issues in the coastal area of the Mekong Delta.
Dr. Huynh Vuong Thu Minh reported the content of chapter 5
And finally, Dr. Dinh Thi Thuy Hang, representative of Vietnam Maritime University – VMU reported on the results of chapter 6-Environmental risks in coastal areas of Vietnam. She shares the difficulty of citing sources. Many data on environmental risks have not been published because of its sensitivity. Our team got this data from unofficial sources, so it doesn’t make sense to include the data without citing the source. Therefore, we are very confused in selecting information to include in the chapter.
Dr. Dinh Thi Thuy Hang reports compiled content of chapter 6
