On the morning of November 6, 2020 at Ben Thanh Hall, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment solemnly held the Opening and Graduation Ceremonies of the Academic year of 2020-2021 to more than 1200 freshmen, 700 new bachelors and new engineers.
Attending the ceremonies were Mr. Giang Duc Chung – Deputy Director of Personnel Department – Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; representatives from a number of units directly under the Ministry; representatives of Universities in Ho Chi Minh city and representatives of businesses and companies that are scholarships’ sponsors for students of HCMUNRE.
On the side of the University, there was the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Xuan Cuong – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the HCMUNRE; Assoc.Prof. Dr. Huynh Quyen- University rector; leaders of faculties, departments, institutes, centers throughout the university, and especially more than 1200 freshmen, the presence of more than 700 new bachelors, new engineers and students’ parents.
Associate Prof. Dr. Huynh Quyen, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment gave the opening speech of the acedamic year 2020-2021. Summarizing the university’s activities, he said, the school year 2019 – 2020 is the year with many difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. It has had a great influence on the teaching and learning progress of lecturers and students of the university. 
However, teachers and students have achieved many proud results, faculty members have strived to successfully complete the tasks assigned by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. In which, outstanding tasks are training, scientific research and foreign relations; meeting the conditions to continue recruiting postgraduate training in some training disciplines; continue to invest in facilities, develop a contingent of lecturers, Rector Huynh Quyen affirmed that the achievements of the last academic year are an important foundation, creating favorable conditions for the university to well perform the tasks of the new academic year. Accordingly, the most important goal of the University is to continue to improve university governance, improve the quality of training and international integration, strive to complete the assessment and accreditation of educational institutions as well as training programs.
At the ceremonies, Rector Huynh Quyen beat the drum to officially open the 2020-2021 academic year of HCMUNRE. He took this opportunity to wish all students at HCMUNRE the greatest success in the coming academic year.
In the joy of open and graduation days, representing new freshmen and new bachelors, new engineers expressed their thoughts and feelings during the ceremonies. They sent their gratitude to the University Management Board, teachers and staff for enthusiastically teaching and helping them throughout the years.
On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Quyen and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Xuan Cuong also thanked the sponsors for continuously develop the cooperation with the University in training, internships and recruiting high-quality human resources.
During the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh quyen has introduced the facilities, staff, teachers of the faculties as well as the scholarship programs, joint cooperation in undergraduate and graduate training and international projects. Especially the summer and winter courses for students with good academic records that have been implemented in the international projects like MARE, SEA-ASIA, INTENSE, SAUNAS…
Also at the ceremonies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Quyen – Rector of HCMUNRE has rewarded valedictorians with top results in the 2020 graduation as well as freshmen with distinct results in the 2020 enrollment, students with outstanding academic and training achievements in 2019-2020, and encouraged disadvantaged students with promotional funding. These awards are to recognize the tremendous efforts of our students and to motivate them to be more confident on their journeys.
After that, Heads of the Faculties awarded diplomas to the New Bachelors and New Engineers of the 2020-2021 school year.
